Editorial policy
The rules MedGrasp holds itself to when it writes, checks, illustrates and corrects a topic.
NoteDraft for review
This page is a draft. It was written to say exactly what the site does today, for the owner and a lawyer to review before launch. It is not legal advice.
To be completed before launch: the business name, the registered address, the governing law, the contact email address.
What we publish, and for whom
MedGrasp publishes medical topics for students at every stage of the course and for doctors. A topic aims to be complete: it starts from first principles and builds up to diagnosis and management, so that a reader meeting it for the first time can follow it. Where guidance differs between regions, the topic says so.
Sources
- Every medical statement is checked against current, credible sources: clinical guidelines from named bodies, peer-reviewed articles, and standard reference books and drug references.
- Every reference listed on a topic is a real page that was opened and confirmed to say what the topic cites it for. Each shows the date it was accessed.
- Facts are free to use; the wording is ours. Every sentence is newly written, and an automated check fails any run of copied words.
- A fact that cannot be confirmed is left out, or its uncertainty is stated. Nothing is invented.
How AI tools are used
Topics are written and checked with AI tools working under written rules. The checking pass is a separate run that did not write the topic. This is why the usual label is “Checked against sources” and not “Reviewed by a clinician”. The second label is used only when a named clinician has read the topic, and it then shows their name and the date. The full process is on How we verify.
Independence
- No topic is sponsored, and nobody pays to have a topic written, changed or left out.
- Advertising, where it is shown, sits between sections and never inside the text. Advertisers do not see or choose what is written.
Figures
A figure is drawn for MedGrasp, or is an openly licensed image of the same finding that the licence allows us to use on a commercial site. Every figure is credited under the picture and on the figure credits page with its licence. Pictures that are not freely licensed are not used.
Dates and labels
Every topic shows when it was last verified and how it was checked. A topic is checked again when guidance changes. The date changes only when the topic has been checked again in full, not when a typo is fixed.
Corrections
If you find a mistake, tell us (see Copyright and takedown and Contact). A report of an error is checked against sources. If it is right, the topic is corrected and checked again. An error that could harm a patient takes priority over other work.
Not medical advice
Topics are for learning, and are not a substitute for clinical judgement or local guidelines. Read the medical disclaimer.
