Cookies and storage
MedGrasp sets no cookies. It keeps a few settings in your browser, and topics you open for offline reading.
NoteDraft for review
This page is a draft. It was written to say exactly what the site does today, for the owner and a lawyer to review before launch. It is not legal advice.
To be completed before launch: the business name, the registered address, the governing law, the contact email address.
Cookies
MedGrasp does not set any cookies. No analytics or advertising runs, so there are none from them either.
What MedGrasp keeps in your browser
These settings are the only things the site writes to your browser’s local storage. They live in local storage (a small store that belongs to this site, like a cookie that is never sent to a server). Nothing here is sent to MedGrasp, and none of it identifies you.
mg-theme- What it holds
- The word light or dark.
- When it is written
- When you choose Light or Dark in the theme switch. Choosing Auto removes it.
- Why
- Shows the theme you chose from the first moment of the next page, instead of flashing the other one.
- How to remove it
- Choose Auto in the theme switch, or clear this site's data in your browser.
mg-recent-searches- What it holds
- Your last searches, up to six.
- When it is written
- When you run a search.
- Why
- Offers them again as quick choices in the search box.
- How to remove it
- The Clear recent searches button on the search page, or clear this site's data in your browser.
mg-install-dismissed- What it holds
- The date and time you pressed Not now on the Install MedGrasp suggestion.
- When it is written
- When you press Not now on that suggestion in the footer. It appears only where your browser can install the site as an app.
- Why
- Hides the suggestion for 90 days so it does not keep asking.
- How to remove it
- Clear this site's data in your browser; the suggestion then appears again where it applies.
Nothing is written to session storage or to an in-browser database. Every read and write is wrapped so that a browser that blocks storage simply works without it: you lose the remembered setting, not the site.
The site also looks for a switch called mg-ads-test on a computer’s own local address, which the people who build MedGrasp use to test advertising frames. The site never writes it, it does nothing on a real website, and visitors do not have it.
Saved for offline reading
MedGrasp installs a small program in your browser, called a service worker, in the live site (not in a development copy). It saves the topics you open on your device so you can read them again without a connection, and it shows a saved copy when the network is gone. The copies live in the browser’s Cache Storage, which is separate from local storage and from cookies. Nothing in it is sent to MedGrasp. Because it holds the topics you have read, it is a record of your reading on this device: clear it if you share the device.
mg-pages-v1- What it holds
- The topic pages you opened, as saved copies.
- How much and how long
- The last 50 topics, none kept longer than 30 days. Opening a topic again refreshes its copy.
mg-figures-v1- What it holds
- The figures on topics you opened.
- How much and how long
- At most 150 files, none kept longer than 30 days.
mg-assets-v1- What it holds
- MedGrasp's own scripts, style sheets and fonts, which the saved pages need in order to look and work as they do online.
- How much and how long
- At most 400 files, none kept longer than 30 days.
mg-search-v1- What it holds
- The search index files your searches fetched, so search keeps working offline.
- How much and how long
- At most 200 files, none kept longer than 30 days.
mg-shell-<build>- What it holds
- The offline page and its small icon, which appear when you are offline and open a page that is not saved. Replaced at each new version of the site.
- How much and how long
- One copy; the previous version's is deleted when a new one takes over.
Never saved: Anything from another website (so no advertising or other third-party content), anything you submit, search result pages, and the pages of signed-in tools when they exist.
To clear it: open Privacy settings (the button below, or in the footer) and press Clear offline data, or clear this site’s data in your browser’s settings. The saved topics are deleted at once; the site keeps working online and saves topics again as you open them.
Advertising and analytics
None runs, so there are no advertising or analytics cookies. If advertising is switched on, this page will list what it adds first, and it will load only if you agree in a privacy banner.
Your choices
The settings above are yours: you can look at them in your browser’s developer tools (Application, then Local Storage) and delete them from there, or clear this site’s data in your browser’s settings. The site then forgets your theme, your recent searches and your saved topics, and carries on.
There is nothing optional to switch on or off at the moment. The Privacy settings window says so:
